USS Canopus Association

It is with deep regret and a sad heart that we must announce the sudden death of Richard Retin, Chairman of our Association. On Friday, September 13, 2013, Richard passed away unexpectedly, in his hometown of Salem, OR. We express our sympathies to his family, loves ones, and Randy, his sister, for her special help given to our Association and the Association's representatives at the private service.

This shocking news has deeply saddened us all. We all have come to know Richard for his inspirational spirit and dedication to the Association. In his passing he will be sadly and greatly missed.

The Association at this time is at a pause. We will continue to carry on, deeply missing Richard's enthusiasm and professional expertise that he brought to our group. Charles "Chuck" Norris our treasurer , Jim "Mushey" Morschhauser our secretary, Milton Smith our new website manager, Jim Hulse our new AS-34 archives MAA, Capt. Jack Peters our Chaplin and myself will continue to keep the Canopus family informed of news and updates of interest.

Richard was known for his favorite signature saying, "have calm winds, and a following sea". To him we all say," well done" shipmate.
