Alice Anderson, 65 Chassahowitzka


Alice Faye Anderson, 65, Chassahowitzka, died Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at Seven Rivers Regional Medical Center in Crystal River.

Born May 23, 1941, to Benjamin and Dallis Harrison, she moved to this area 34 years ago from her native Piedmont, Ala.

She was a private duty CNA and enjoyed crafts and needlework.

She was Baptist.

Survivors include three sons, Ronnie Ellis of Clearwater, Derrick S. Ellis and Randall Anderson, both of Sumter County; daughter, Darlene Ellis of Dallas, Texas; sister, Linda Burkhart of Chassahowitzka; and five grandchildren.

James Cahill, 73 Crystal River


James Patrick Cahill, 73, Crystal River, died Monday, April 9, 2007, at his home under the care of his family and Hospice of Citrus County.

Born Nov. 28, 1933, in Bronx, N.Y., to James Brendan and Margaret Cahill, he moved to this area 11 years ago from New Fairfield, Conn.

Mr. Cahill retired after 20 years of service with the New York City Transit Authority as a mechanic.

He was a U.S. Navy Korean War veteran.

He was preceded in death by his son, Daryl Cahill, in 1981 and his sister, Elizabeth Cahill in 1958.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Betty Cahill of Crystal River; son, Brian Cahill of Faquay Varina, N.C.; daughter, Carrie Smith and husband Robert of Danbury, Conn.; brother, Joseph Cahill of Cleveland, Ohio; sister, Eileen Lynn of Brooksville; three granddaughters, Crystal, Nicole and Helen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Andy Crabb, 83 Homosassa


Andy S. Crabb, 83, Homosassa, died Tuesday morning, April 10, 2007, at Hernando-Pasco Hospice Citrus Care Center.

He was born July 25, 1923, in Bloomfield to Robert R. and Minnie (Pantley) Crabb and came to Citrus County 35 years ago from Wiersdale.

Mr. Crabb was the owner and operator of Masons Concrete Block and Ready Mix Company.

He was a World War II U.S. Air Force veteran, a member of the Kiwanis Club of Citrus Ridge-Crystal River, a member of the West Citrus Elks Lodge, Springs Masonic Lodge No. 378 F&AM, Scottish Rite, York Rite, Morroco Temple Shrine, Ocala and Citrus Shrine Clubs and was a member of the Crystal River United Methodist Church.

His son, Myles Crabb, preceded him in death on Aug. 6, 1992.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Frances Crabb of Homosassa; a son, Andy Skip Crabb and wife Belinda of Homosassa; a sister, Dorothy Heald of Eustis; grandchildren, Travis and Robert Crabb and Angelina Brickensteine; and great-grandchildren, Kirsten and Jordan Brickensteine.

Mildred Giles, 95 Homosassa


Mildred P. Giles, 95, Homosassa, died Friday, April 6, 2007, at Arbor Trail Nursing Home in Inverness.

She was born Aug. 23, 1911, in Homosassa and was the sister of Harry Gleaton of Homosassa.

She and her husband, Lavon Giles, lived in St. George, Utah, for some years. After his death, Mildred returned to Homosassa.

She moved here from St. George Utah, 36 years ago.

Her interests included church work and the welfare of all animals.

She was the founding member of the Lecanto Branch, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Mildred’s guardian, Barbara Prozer, would especially like to thank caregivers Chrissy, Wendy and Pam, along with the staff at Arbor Trail.

Mary Jaedtke, 90 Winona


Mary Caroline (Saunders) Jaedtke, 90, of Watkins Manor, Winona, Minn., formerly of Yankeetown, died Monday, April 2, 2007.

She was born in 1917, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of A.J. and Arlien (Hoffmaster) Saunders. The family lived in LaGrange, Ill., where Mary graduated from Lyons Township High School.

After graduation from Central Methodist College in Fayette, Mo., she taught elementary school in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., where she met her husband Gilbert. They were married in Los Angeles, Calif., in 1944.

They raised four children in Homewood, Ill. Gilbert worked as a civil engineer at Great Lakes Dredge and Dock in Chicago. After their children were grown, they moved to Bel Air, Md., and later Pleasanton, Calif.

Upon retirement, the couple divided their time between homes in Yankeetown and Republic, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her infant son, Douglas, and her sister, Leticia, of LaGrange, Ill., and Seal Beach, Calif.

Survivors include her husband Gilbert; three daughters, Marilyn (Dr. Michael) Meeker of Winona, Minn., Ellen Nichols and husband David of Glendale, Calif., and Nancy Hall and husband James of Fort Myers; son, Wayne and wife Peggy Zinna of Cape Cod, Mass.; six grandchildren, Jessica, Ryan, Brooks, Dana, Bret and Betsy; four great-grandchildren, Morgan, Mason, Ashley and Brent; and a brother, Hugh, of LaGrange, Ill.

A private family memorial service is planned.

Donald LaMotte, 81 Hernando


Donald E. LaMotte, 81, Hernando, died Monday, April 9, 2007, at the Hospice House in Lecanto.

Born Feb. 20, 1926, in Newberry, Mich., to Joseph and Alma (Blaukenship) LaMotte, he moved here in 1987 from Pasco County.

Mr. LaMotte was a retired carpenter.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

His enjoyments in life were working in his yard, building with wood and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was Catholic.

Mr. LaMotte was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Lester LaMotte, the day before on April 8, 2007. He also was predeceased by his stepson, Terry B. Hedrick, Nov. 15, 2005.

Survivors include one daughter, Janis Wynn of Edington, N.C.; a stepson, Stern Hedrick of Tampa; a stepdaughter, Kathleen Jones and husband Alan of Land O’ Lakes; a brother, Stan LaMotte of San Diego, Calif.; one nephew; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Robert ‘Chip’ Linhart, 49 Floral City


Robert James “Chip” Linhart, 49, Floral City, died Saturday, April 7, 2007, in Hernando.

Born Aug. 14, 1957, in Oneonta, N.Y., to Edwin R. and Dorothy Eileen (Briggs) Linhart, he moved to this area 20 years ago.

Mr. Linhart worked many odd jobs in the area. He was a graduate of Charlotte Valley Central High School and was a Navy veteran serving from 1975-78.

Survivors include his parents, Eddie and Dottie Linhart of Inverness; one sister, Marie Linhart, two brothers, Chris Linhart and Danny Linhart and wife Cybil, all of Floral City; several nieces and nephews and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Anna Marzewski, 80, Inverness, died Sunday, March 25, 2007, at Avante at Inverness.

She was born May 16, 1926, in Brylovka, Ukraine, the daughter of John and Oxana Kotov. She moved to New York from Ukraine in 1951, coming to the Citrus County area in 1996 from Brooklyn, N.Y.

She attended Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Inverness.

Survivors include her daughters, Antoinette Leddy of Orlando and Ida Johnson of Inverness; grandchildren, Cindy Johnson, Robin Johnson and James Leddy, all of Inverness, Colleen Robinson of Mississippi and Joseph Leddy of Inverness; and brother Peter and sister Sara, both of Ukraine.

John W. Mertz, 77, New Port Richey, died Sunday, April 8, 2007, at Consulate Nursing Home of New Port Richey.

He was born in Commerce, Mo. Originally from Mantua, Ohio, he moved to New Port Richey 15 years ago from Dunedin, where he lived for 17 years.

Mr. Mertz was a truck driver employed by Burdines, Clearwater, and a World War II U.S. Army/Air Force veteran.

He was Baptist.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Alice; four sons, Dale Mertz of Kent, Ohio, Paul Mertz of Mansfield, Ohio, Frank Schlectar of St. Louis, Mo., and Raymond Mertz of New Port Richey; one daughter, Kay Coomes of Lecanto; one sister, Betty Milan of Tryon, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Scott “Joker” Dean Muster, 32, Homosassa, died Saturday, April 7, 2007, at his home under the care of his family and Hospice of Citrus County.

He was born Jan. 18, 1975, in Carrollton, Ky., and came here 17 years ago from Merritt Island.

Mr. Muster attended local schools and was a former student at the Withlacoochee Technical Institute.

He was the former owner of Advance Carpet Cleaning Company.

He was well known for his caring and giving heart, always helping others.

He was Protestant.

Surviving family members include his father, Robert D. Muster and wife Sandra of Homosassa; his mother, Rebecca Ligon and husband Robert of Centerville, Alaska; sister, Stacey Muster of Conroe, Texas; paternal grandmother, Ruby Oatsvall of Crystal River; maternal grandmother, Martha Courtney of Latonia, Ky.; cousins, Jeff, Melanie, Jeden and Samantha Conner; aunt Jo and uncle Joe Conner; and many other relatives and friends.

David Wheelock, 64 Citrus Hills


David Earl Wheelock, 64, Citrus Hills, died Monday, April 9, 2007, at the Hospice House in Lecanto.

Born Jan. 10, 1943, in Natick, Mass., to William and Henrietta (Beattie) Wheelock, he moved here in 1998 from Westfield, Mass.

Mr. Wheelock retired from the Westfield Fire Department as a firefighter with 30 years of service.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and was a member of the USS Canopus Association and the Moose Lodge.

His enjoyments in life were gardening, reading and he was passionate about old movies.

He was Methodist.

His brother, Ernest Wheelock, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Patricia (Murray) Wheelock; one daughter, Nancy Roche and husband Sean of Selinsgrove, Pa.; three brothers, William Wheelock Jr. of Bradenton, George Wheelock of Haverhill, Mass., and Kenneth Wheelock of Palmer, Mass.; and five sisters, Louise Gillis of Abington, Mass., Alyce Burek of Ludlow, Mass., Nancy Desjardins of Chicopee, Mass., Judith Loraw of Elkmont, Ala., and Wendy Romeo of Tucson, Ariz.

Nancy Wolfe, 88, Homosassa, died Wednesday, April 4, 2007, in Crystal River.

She was born Feb. 28, 1919, in Mansfield, Conn., and came here 26 years ago from New York City, N.Y.

Mrs. Wolfe was a retired cook for Eastern States Teachers College of Willimantic, Conn.

She was Catholic.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas Wolfe of Homosassa; and two sons, John T. Wolfe Jr. of Green Acres and Robert Wolfe of South Windham, Conn.
